What To Wear

If you have not ridden before, or at least for sometime, you should please note the following requirements for riding at Skyward Pines Equestrian Center.

Helmets

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED WHEN MOUNTED FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 AND ARE RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE WHO IS MOUNTED.

Helmets must comply to the following standard:

Helmets are acceptable if they carry EN1384 or BSEN1384 and another standard such as those listed:

  • PAS 015 (1998 or 2011)

  • VG1 01.040 (2014-12)

  • ASTM F1163 (2004a or 04a onwards)

  • SNELL E2001

  • AS/NZS 3838 (2006 onwards)

Helmets must be worn when mounted; correctly fitted and fastened. We have Helmets you can use if you are just visiting the area or have just taken up riding.
If you have a riding He
lmet, bring it along and ask your instructor to check it for current standards.

Footwear

Tall Riding boots or Jodhpur/Paddock boots ideally should be worn, however; any closed toe flat shoe or boot with a smooth sole and a small heel would be acceptable. Cowboy boots are permitted for western riding classes only. Avoid boots with chains, more zips, extra decorative stuff etc. these things can stick to the stirrup. Don’t wear open shoes, toed shoes, slippers or sneakers etc. these will not only hurt you, but they will also increase your chances of falling off from the horse.

Lower Body

Thick leggings or trousers that offer freedom of movement. Jeans are acceptable in western classes only. Legs must be covered at all times i.e no skirts.

Upper Body

Choose your shirt according to weather conditions. A good choice will be the one that is not so tight that you hardly breathe in it and also not very loose that hangs with your body. Your shirt should be comfortable and fit your body properly.

If you wear jacket or coat, make sure it doesn’t have a lot of buttons or open zip. The best choice will be the one that has covered zip or buttons. Make sure your shirt is not long enough to get under your hip. Don’t wear dresses.

Body protectors are recommended for any lesson involving jumping.

Hands

Riding gloves are permitted but not required.

Jewelry

No jewelry should be worn while riding or handling horses. The only exceptions are the wearing of a wedding ring and watch.

Ultimately it is your responsibility to be dressed correctly in accordance with the above information before riding.
